Yep! I think you have a small error that most people don’t find out about until they run into it. I know you have seen the labels on DVDs that say (+r DVD or -r DVD) their are more like dual layer (dl) but let me explain the – and + which is where most have the problems. No matter what recorder you get if you want to play back you need to know what the player is. Most of the newer DVD players and computer DVDs are + the older type/style players are (-) If you purchase a dual layer DVD player it should use both (+ & -) blank dvd’s but you need to know the PLAYER you are gonna use or the disk will say can’t read or No dvd in drive. If you are recording on the computer let’s say it’s a + drive and your are using a player that is a – this will give you this error. (their is no known way to change this. or fix it but to purchase a $30 dvd player which is probabaly a + . The other option (this I did) is purchase a DL type drive and disk that work on your player. They aren’t expensive and will allow you to go both ways.
Now I’m not finished. Wanna save money, These are home movies. so i think High Quality is not the main problem. you could get CD’s and make SVD copies of the movies. they are smaller than the dvd (about 35minutes per cd) but will allow you to play them in MOST dvd players. This is a 50/50 option as some dvd players won’t play them either. But the latest and cheapest dvd players (new on the market) will ! Look for the ones that offer mpeg and photo ability, they are + dvd’s and will play svd’s
