I have a sony handycam that takes mini dv tapes and it works great. Just make sure the computer you get has a firewire port (although you can get one for the PCMIA slot for less than $30) I highly recommend using StashSpace for video editing, sharing, and storage. They have an easy to use app for editing that is free. Go to to check them out. They also have great customer support so give them a call if you need help.
