How do you take your home movies from a dvd-r digital recorder and import them into a movie making software?

I can’t say about Sony Vegas. But for DVD-R, the first thing you need to make sure is that the disc has been ‘Finalized’ or Closed so that it will play on other DVD players. That’s a function found in your DVD recorder, usually under Disc Management.

Then check your software’s manual to see if it can import VOB files or if they need to be converted to another format, first.
